Digicel ITF slams-off tomorrow

Tennis will again be a featured sport in St. Vincent and the Grenadines this month as international and national players participate in the 2009 DIGICEL International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tennis Championships scheduled for August 8th – 15th.{{more}}

With over ninety international players and nearly fifty national players being accepted to participate, the event builds on the SVG Tennis Association’s plans to provide a full calendar of tournaments and events to promote the national growth of tennis.

Telecommunications operator, DIGICEL, will once again sponsor this ITF Junior Tennis event- the largest Tennis event of the year in SVG. Digicel’s sponsorship represents three years of continued commitment to Junior Tennis and the DIGICEL ITF Junior Tennis Championships – a major calendar event for Junior Tennis in the Caribbean. Digicel has also sponsored the Schools Tennis Initiative programme enabling the sport of Tennis to reach hundreds of Vincentian children.

The 2009 Digicel ITF Junior Tennis Championships will be played at the National Tennis Centre in Villa starting at 9a.m. daily. Aimed at encouraging the further development of player standards, the competition will consist of boys and girls under 18 and 14 Singles and Doubles. The tournament gives Vincentian junior Tennis players the best opportunity to further gain valuable points to better their international rankings or to become internationally ranked.
