Unlike the ten other players who will represent X-Cel at the ITF Coca Cola tournament in St. Lucia from August 1- 8, Harry’s participation will be at no cost to his parents.

This was Harry’s reward for his exemplary sportsmanship displayed in the recently concluded X-Cel Summer Junior Tennis Tournament which was held at the National Lotteries Authority Court at Richmond Hill.

Harry, a 13-year-old student of the St. Vincent Grammar School and who in September will be entering the third form, was described by Samantha Goodluck, one of the coaches and co-founder of the academy, as a young Tennis player who does not flinch when given a task, even if that task is very demanding.

Goodluck is hopeful that Harry’s reward will serve as an incentive to other members of the academy to strive for.

A relatively new player to the sport, Harry does not aspire to become a professional player, but says he wants to use Tennis as a bridge towards achieving a higher level of education. And, despite having world number two Roger Federer as his Tennis role model, Harry sees a future for him as a Pilot.

He and Leopold Joyette were the beaten finalists in the Juniors Doubles, losing to the pair of John Rickards and Kyle Hall.

The Senior Doubles winner was the duo of J’rai Joyette-Da Silva and Dujoh Ollivierre. Khamisi Bascombe took the Boys Under-10 and Under 12 singles titles.

Julio Francis copped the Boys Under-14, Shane Latchman, the Boys Under-16, with Ollivierre triumphing in the Under-18, and Michael Stowe was the winner in the Under-20.

Luke Browne was adjudged the Most Promising Player, and Most Improved Player was Luc Velox.

Omri Crooke, who commuted daily from Rose Bank to be part of the Tournament, stashed away the introduction to tennis award. He also gave some creditable performances.

Velox, one of the promising Table Tennis players, switched sport last year.

Siara Goodluck received a special award for competing with the boys.

Prizes were donated by well wishers of the X- Cel Tennis Academy. (RT)
