Browne rewinds the clock
Former St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Windward Islands and Combined Islands middle order batsman Colville Browne rewound the hands of time, as he hit 81 for Imperial in the Brooklyn Cricket League last weekend at the Sea View Ground in Brooklyn, New York.{{more}}
Browne shared in a record stand of 238 run for the first wicket, with Barbadian Orient Bostic. The former Division one player in his native land, Bostic topscored with 158.
Jason Williams added 31 not out, as Imperial posted 296 for 3 off their 40 overs.
But the defending league champions Travel Treat were bowled out for 202.
Asim made 69, Shawaz, 32, and Shah contributed 30.
Bowling for Imperial, Arthur Cain had 3 for 30, Williams, 2 for 20, Bostic, 2 for 35, and Byron Mars, 2 for 51.
Imperial returned the following day, Sunday, to take care of St. Lucia, also at the Sea View venue.
St. Lucia won the toss and took first strike and reached 157 all out from 28 overs, Victor Mangal topscored with 44 and Jude Jean-Baptiste, 38, were the only two notable scorers. Veteran leg spinner Mars grabbed 6 for 26 from 7 overs to record his third five wicket haul of the season.
Browne assisted with 2 for 43.
When Imperial batted, former St.Vincent and the Grenadines left handed batsman Clarence Wyllie hit 48 not out, Williams, 35, and Foster Lewis, 22 not out, overtook the total, reaching 158 for the loss of five wickets.
And, in an all Vincentian clash, Cavalier put out the lights of Stars United by five wickets.
Stars United posted 173, to which Cavalier cruised home, reaching 174 for 4, and with 10 overs to spare.
Following last weekendâs matches, Imperial now leads the Brooklyn Cricket League standings with ten wins and has a solitary loss. (RT)
