Simple Boys double up

Simple Boys was crowned double male champion in the 2008 C.O Williams Construction ASCO Softball Cricket Competition last Sunday. They added the league title to the knockout title when they beat their junior counterparts, 2 Simple, by 32 runs.{{more}}

Batting first, Simple Boys was dismissed for 122 in 20 overs. Stein Joseph blasted 50 and Elroy Morris hit 27.

Travis Cumberbatch grabbed 3 for 16 and Kelvin Lorraine, 2 for 17. 2 Simple in their run chase was bundled out for 96 in 18.3 overs.

Elric Morris got 33. Veron Bute bagged 4 for17, Elroy Morris, 2 for 13, and Calbert Simon, 2 for14. The previous day, Simple Boys made light work of last year’s winner, Shot Callers, to march into the final.

And, on an afternoon of finals, United Survivors retained the League Championship for the sixth consecutive year.

This when they defeated their arch rival Zees and Sons ASCO by 43 runs. Batting first, United Survivors was restricted to 119 in 15 overs. National players Cordel Jack and Samantha Lynch slammed 51 and 25, respectively. Deone Durham picked up 3 for 6, bowling for Zees & Sons ASCO.

In reply, ASCO only managed 76 in 13.5 overs. Another national player, Julianna Nero hit 42.

The presentation of awards will be held on Saturday, 17th May, 2008, at the Dauphine Community Center at 6:30 pm. (RT)
