New sponsorship contract for Gayle, Sarwan

KINGSTON, Jamaica (CMC) – Sony Ericsson, a worldwide producer of mobile telecommunications handsets, announced its sponsorship of West Indies batsmen Chris Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan.

In accordance with the agreement, parent company Ericsson has been granted co-branding and promotional rights for the matches played by the West Indies’ team on their regional and overseas tours. {{more}}

Gayle and Sarwan will make a number of personal appearances and assist in key marketing activities.

The deal also positions Sony Ericsson as the supplier of choice for the West Indies team’s mobile phones.

“Sony Ericsson is proud to support the West Indies’ team and contribute to the development of the sport in the region.

The Caribbean has been, and will continue to be an area of focus and development for our company. We consider it an essential market,”Mariana Quintana, marketing manager for Sony Ericsson, stated.

Gayle, ranked among the best all-rounders in the world, is only the fourth West Indian cricketer to score a triple century, having achieved this during the recent series against South Africa. He has just been named West Indies One-Day Player-of-the-Year for 2004.

Sarwan became the youngest player to play first-class cricket in the West Indies when he made his debut for Guyana at just over 15 years old. He made a double century against Bangladesh when he scored 261 not out in 2004 and was named Player of the Tournament of the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy tournament.
