Four new venues for World Cup Cricket
Cricket World Cup officials predict that some 100,000 visitors will attend the 51 matches in the 2007 games.
This has been disclosed as stadiums in Barbados, Jamaica, St. Vincent and Trinidad were added to the list of venues that will host warm-up matches for the 2007 cricket World Cup. {{more}}
One of the venues is a new, 15,000-seat stadium to be built in Trinidad, which will be named in honour of Brian Lara, Venue Development Director Don Lockerbie announced.
The Three Ws Oval, outside Bridgetown, Barbados; the Trelawney Stadium, under construction in western Jamaica; and Arnos Vale Playing Field in St. Vincent complete the list. The Three Ws Oval underwent a $500,000 upgrade, and further development is being planned for the World Cup.
âWe are putting together a number of special venues to stage the best World Cup ever,â said Lockerbie, who added that Governments have invested over $250 million to see this project work.
Eight venues were selected last July to host tournament matches: Kensington Oval (Barbados), Sabina Park (Jamaica), The Viv Richards Stadium (Antigua), Queenâs Park Stadium (Grenada), Queenâs Park Oval (Trinidad), The New Warner Park (St. Kitts), Beausejour Cricket Ground (St. Lucia), and a new facility to be built in Guyana.
Officials predict more than 100,000 visitors will attend the tournaments 51 matches.
