The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force has proved that it is a force to be reckoned with in the field of athletics.
Fielding a team comprising Sergeant Veronica Williams and Constables Garwin Phillips and Charleen Bute, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police proved successful in the 81st Trinidad and Tobago Police Week on May 2 – 9.{{more}}
Bute, the Victrix Ludorum in the local Police Meet held here in August last year, was outstanding as she ran away with first place titles in the 100 and 200 metre races. She had more laurels added to her crown when she claimed second positions in the 400 and 800 metres. Bute also placed third in the five-mile road race and was part of a team which placed first in the 4 x 100 that placed first.
On the other hand, Phillips placed second in the shot-put and discus competitions while Williams placed third in the shot-put from a slate of athletes drawn from Antigua, Barbados, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and host Trinidad and Tobago.
Following the Trinidad and Tobago Police Week, Bute and Phillips joined Constable Evrist Tempro and Inspector Jonathan Nicholls in Barbados for the Barbados Police Week, which ran from May 9 – 16.
Bute was again exceptional in this event capturing first place titles in the 100, 200, 400, 800, and 1,500 metre races. She was also part of the team that won the 4 x 100-metre race. Her winning streak resulted in her winning the Victrix Ludorum title.
Tempro captured first place titles in the 800 and 1500 metre races, second for the 400 and 4 x 400 metre races and third in the javelin competition.
Phillips placed second in the discus, third in the shot-put competition and was part of a tug-o-war team with Nicholls that placed third. Nicholls was adjudged the eventual winner of the Inspectors’ Race and 3rd in the 4 x 400 race.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines placed second overall behind Barbados.
