SVG warming up for CWC

All bases are being covered as this country gets ready to host warm up matches for Cricket World Cup 2007, the world’s third largest sporting event.

And in the eventuality of various emergencies, there are persons here equipped to lend their expertise.

The National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) in conjunction with the Local Orgainising Committee (LOC) recently conducted a one week seminar on emergency preparedness called “Medical First Response Training” . {{more}}

The seminar involved 21 persons from a wide cross section the local constabulary, employees of the National Sports Council and members of the Red Cross.

Training was carried out in child birth, rescue operations, emergency and Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Michelle Forbes, the second in command at NEMO disclosed that the seminar was aimed at “building capacity at the national level”.

She said that although it was primarily in preparation for the Cricket World Cup, many of the persons involved in the seminar are exposed to emergencies as part of their daily work routine.

The forty hours of instruction were facilitated by George and Karen Florence and Gerald Mc Kellar of G and G Fire Protection of Dallas Texas in the USA. It was sponsored by US Southcom.

St Vincent and the Grenadines will host Australia, England, Bermuda and Zimbabwe from March 2-10 next year, with four matches scheduled among them to be played at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
