OECS Sagicor swimming Championship kicks-off today

The OECS SAGICOR Swimming Championship is set to take place November 3-5 at the Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre in St Lucia. The only OECS Member State with a 25m competition pool is St Lucia at present, which is why the event has been hosted by the St Lucia Swimming Federation for the past five years. Other OECS Swimming Federations have been working with their Ministries of Sport to have competitive pools built in their islands and as they are commissioned there will be different venues available to host the event. {{more}}

In the mean time sponsor of the meet SAGICOR, has once again indicated it’s support for the meet and looks forward to OECS Member State Swimming Federations working harder in their quest to develop the sport, so that it may be incorporated into the Physical Education syllabus in the Primary and Secondary schools throughout the region. This will encourage more clubs to be formed and hence more vibrant Swimming Associations.

As this meet is an OECS meet, the member associations along with the OECS Sports Desk collectively agreed to invite a team from Martinique to give our swimmers stronger competition and create greater excitement in the meet.

SAGICOR continues to invest in the youth of our Member States and looks forward to, as well as encourages keen competition in an atmosphere of fair play at this prestigious meet.

Last year St Lucia fought hard to win the event, narrowly defeating arch rivals Grenada by just a few points. This year Grenada is set to once again challenge the best in the OECS but must overcome the rest of the OECS teams and in particular last years champions St Lucia….certainly a daunting task indeed.
