Canouan hunts for another netball title

Defending champion of the National Lotteries Authority Grenadines Netball Tournament, Canouan, go into the weekend of October 13, 14 and 15 final round in Bequia as hot favourites to lift the title.

They are the only unbeaten team in the eight-team competition. Canouan are on eight points from four matches, having derailed Carriacou One and Two, Bequia, and Mustique in the opening weekend two weeks ago in the Grenada dependency of Carriacou.{{more}}

On their agenda on the final weekend are Union Island, Union Island Secondary School (UISS) and the Bequia Community High (BCH).

And Canouan’s remaining opponents are languishing in the standings. UISS are yet to win a match and have suffered heavy defeats. The schoolgirls’ highest total thus far is six scored against Carriacou Two.

Union Island sits on six points with two matches in hand, while the BCH has had a lone triumph over UISS.

Carriacou One lead the standings with 11 points from seven matches, with their number two team occupying the third spot on six points from five matches.

Last weekend as action shifted to the Ashton Hard court in Union Island, Union Island doused UISS 40-4, and edged out Mustique 24-22. Mustique rebounded to crush UISS 37-4, to add two points to the one they gained for the 24-24 draw against Carriacou One.

The lid will be put on the tournament next week Sunday, the last day of the three-day extravaganza at the Clive Tannis Hard Court in Bequia.

Following the matches, prizes and trophies won in the tournament will be distributed.
