Prime the pump
by Karen James
Does saying thank you matters to customers? Absolutely!
Itâs impactful. It solidifies that thereâs a two-way relationship and makes customers feel valued. Most customers donât leave because of what the competitor is offering, but because thereâs no connection to the business.
A âthank youâ doesnât have to be long or carefully articulated to have financial benefits. Creating a good customer experience is a prime investment.
Recently, someone said to me âIâve never advertised. My location does it for me.â Another said âIâm satisfied with what I make, I donât need to advertise.â You may be on top today, but thereâs always someone who is aspiring to be better than you and eventually will be, if you donât prime your pump. Put something in, no matter how small and youâll get something out. Strive to be the best and remain the best. Find ways to reinvent your business.
Weâve partnered with several winners and nominees of the Best of SVG to say âthank youâ. Some businesses never thought of it, but welcomed the nudge; others, even after being nudged, never budged. Henry Ford (1863-1947), founder of Ford Motor Company, once said âthe man who stops advertising to save money is like the man who stops the clock to save time.â
A business creates its own good and bad times. When business is good, advertise; when business is bad, advertising is not an option.
