Carlon Thomas keeps PCCU’s computer system up to date

Network Technician Carlon Thomas is responsible for the upkeep of the computer network and digital security at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Cooperative Credit Union (SVGPCCU).

“I make sure that our computer system is always up to date and I ensure that the customers’ financial records are protected,” explained Thomas, during an interview with SEARCHLIGHT on Friday, January 20.

Thomas has been employed at the PCCU since 2014 and the Clare Valley resident takes his job very seriously. He is a graduate of the Bethel High School where he did business studies, but after leaving secondary school, he decided to venture into the field of computing, as his observations made him realize that the world was quickly moving towards a digital revolution.

He is a past student of the computer programme at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College, having graduated in 2012 with an Associate’s Degree. He holds a CompTIA A+ certification, which means that he understands the most common hardware and software technologies in business and has the certified skills necessary to support complex IT infrastructures.

He also did a diploma course in computer network security with Ashford College.

The 2015 Employee of the Year boasts of designing the SVGPCCU website and the Caribbean Federation of Police Welfare Association website. He is currently looking into offering online banking and Automatic Teller Services (ATM) at the PCCU.

I enjoy dealing with customers – Akiki John

“Working here is good, I enjoy dealing with customers,” says teller and marketing officer Akiki John.

John has been employed at the St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Cooperative Credit Union (SVGPCCU) for over three years.

The Old Montrose resident is a past student of the Intermediate High School (IHS) and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College. He is currently working on a Bachelor’s degree in management studies.

“We deal mostly with police officers. The fact that we were located at the Kingstown station, we know the officers very well, so they are like family. We know them by first name, so it makes the job quite easy, but we are also very professional,” said John.

She is a past student of the Seventh-Day Adventist Primary School in Buccament, the Lowmans Leeward Anglican School, the Bethel High School and the St Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Science and General Studies.

She started as a teller at the PCCU as a YES Programme employee and gained permanent status after one year on the job. She was then moved to the post of loans officer.
