Victory vote for Fisheries Association

Eocen ‘Chin’ Victory, Chairman of the National Fisherfolk Association Steering Committee is challenging stakeholders in the fishing industry to put more effort into formally establishing the organization so that members of the fishing industry can have a greater voice in the decisions that policy makers make on their behalf.{{more}}

Victory explained that a vibrant National Fisherfolk Association (NFA) will strengthen the local fisherfolk organizations, create opportunities for training, as well as build capacity.

The NFA steering committee was formed during a consultation that took place approximately two years ago. Likewise, steps are being taken towards establishing a Regional Fisherfolk Association.

According to Victory, in order for St.Vincent and the Grenadines to become a part of this organization it has to first establish an NFA.

At present there are three organized fisherfolk associations in St.Vincent and the Grenadines: The Goodwill Fisheries Cooperative, the Barrouallie Fisheries Development Cooperative, and the Calliaqua Fishermen Cooperative (CALFICO).
