SUZANNE’S gives back again

Hairdressers in St. Vincent and the Grenadines are being encouraged to follow the lead of Suzanne Goodluck.

On Wednesday, October 24, for the seventh consecutive year, Goodluck, of Suzanne’s Hair Studio, opened the doors of her beauty salon to this nation’s senior citizens, and provided them with free beauty services.{{more}}

“We provide all services free. Not just hair services, but manicures, pedicures, anything they need,” Goodluck told Searchlight.

The stylist of over twenty years experience said that this is her way of saying thanks. “They have done so much for us over the years… We tend to focus on the kids, and put all our energies into them, forgetting the seniors. We want to show them they are not forgotten,” Goodluck explained.

“This is what all the salons should be doing; giving back a portion of what God is doing for them,” advises prophetess, evangelist and teacher, Robertha Pope.

Pope, who hails from Biabou, was one of dozens of mature ladies who thronged to the beauty salon for their annual Senior Citizens’ Appreciation Day.

The senior citizen told Searchlight that Goodluck’s gesture is very important and demonstrates that love that is within her. “Many people don’t do it because they don’t have love. Love for humanity is in her heart,” Pope explained.

Pope’s views are supported by Naomi Greigg, who when we spoke with her was receiving expert attention from stylist Suzie Allen. “The other hairdressers just receive, receive, receive, and don’t give out. Suzanne is the best.”

The day’s activities began at 9:00 a.m. with devotions, and, according to manicurist Joy-Ann Culzac-Lewis, were expected to go until about 5:30 p.m. or until the last person left. “It is good to give back to the community… we learn so much when they come in here … remedies, things from way back when,” Lewis shared.

The atmosphere in the salon seemed more like an afternoon tea party than a day at the hairdresser, with the ladies using the opportunity to catch up with old friends. They even sang the Happy Birthday song to Stacy Cottle of Queen’s Drive who was having a pedicure, and stylist Sylvanie Little, both of whom were celebrating on Wednesday.

Other seniors who expressed their gratitude were Dorothea Dickson, who said that the staff at Suzanne’s is very cooperative, which makes the salon a pleasant place to visit. 82-year-old Elaine Williams/Goodluck of Biabou said it was the first time she was taking part in the event, having heard about it in church.

Gertrude Noel of Fairbairne Pasture was effusive with her praise. “God bless Suzanne. A lot of people don’t have the money to do it. She is providing for them. Thank God for Suzanne.” She also expressed the hope that other hairdressers will do likewise.

For her deeds, it seems as if Suzanne can look forward to a bright future. “She will be blessed. That is why her doors are always open,” Prophetess Pope assured.
