NEMO, SOUFRIERE MONITORING UNIT & SEISMIC RESEARCH UNIT, UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES, ST. AUGUSTINE TO HOST VOLCANO AWARENESS ACTIVITIES.
Activities to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the 1979 eruption of the La Soufrière Volcano will commence this Friday 13th April with a Grand Exhibition at South River Road.{{more}}
This year the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) in collaboration with the Soufrière Monitoring Unit and the Seismic Research Unit of the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine has scheduled a number of activities to heighten the public’s awareness on geological hazards and to commemorate the 1979 eruption of the La Soufirere Volcano.
The volcano awareness activities for 2006 commences with a Grand Exhibition at South River Road on Friday 13th April, 2007, followed by an on the – road exhibition on Tuesday 24th April, 2007, at the Fancy Government School. On Thursday 26th April, 2007, members of Staff of NEMO will hold a community meeting at the Sandy Bay Learning Resource Centre at 6:00 pm. The activities to commemorate the 28th anniversary of the 1979 eruption of the La Soufrière Volcano will climax on Friday 27th April, 2007 with a School Education Programme at the Rose Hall Government School.
