Top three priorities of next generation leaders

To stay competitive and develop strong business relationships, the leaders of all companies must examine the way their leadership team operates. Are the future leaders ready to take the helm of the company? Do they have the right mindset and priorities? Next generation leaders should have these three priorities.

Find the smartest people. Successful leaders surround themselves with people who are smarter than them. The old school of thought would say that leaders who employ this strategy are setting themselves up for an early retirement. However, with fierce global competition and rapid industry changes, leaders must recognize and take advantage of the expertise each employee brings, in order to survive in the marketplace. It is impossible for one person to possess all the expertise needed to run a company.

Employees are your first priority, not customers. It has been a long-held belief that the customer is always number one. As a result, companies are set up solely to meet the needs of the customers. Progressive business leaders have challenged this notion successfully and have demonstrated that by making employees number one, meeting the needs of the customers becomes less of a concern. Employees who are happy with their job and the way the company treats them will naturally want to give their best to the customers and to the company.

Be a visionary. Change in the business world is a given, but the companies who pioneer new developments are headed by leaders who truly understand the importance of evaluating the present needs and examining ways to do things better always and anticipating what is ahead.
