Tribute from the Carnival Development Corporation on the passing of Miss Ingrid Mayers – Miss SVG 1978 in New York, USA, on December 31, 2011.

The Carnival Development Corporation is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Miss Ingrid Mayers of Liberty Lodge and Brooklyn, New York, on December 31, 2011. Miss Ingrid Mayers was crowned Miss SVG in 1978 and Miss Antigua Jaycees Queen, also in that year.

In the Miss SVG pageant she copped the tittles of BEST EVENING GOWN, BEST TALENT. Her outfits were designed and made by her. She also was awarded MISS CONGENIALITY and MOST PHOTOGENIC.

Miss Mayers was educated at the Lodge Village Primary School and the St. Joseph’s Convent. Her charming and friendly disposition won her a host of friends both in SVG and New York. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and was the live wire at every function at home and abroad.

Following her victory of BEST EVENING GOWN in Miss SVG 1978, she turned out many bridal parties here and in New York. She had a passion for Designing and Interior decorating and was engaged in several events where she used this special gift.

In SVG in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s she was employed at Barclays Bank PLC. Among her treasured friends at the St Joseph’s Convent and at Barclays Bank PLC was Mrs. Diane Da Silva Clifton who shared a few words with Mrs. Cheryl Rodriguez, Chairperson of the Beauty Shows Committee.

‘Ingrid was a beautiful woman, both inside and out. True beauty is not about how a person looks, but it is what comes from within that person. Ingrid represented both inner and outer beauty. She possessed a luminous smile which lit up the darkest room. God needed a queen in Heaven and there is where Ingrid is now.

She would say to us as the writer I.P. Richardson “Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh and talk of me as I was beside you there.”

In the early 1980’s Ingrid migrated to the U.S.A. where she gained employment at St. Mary’s and Kings Brook Hospitals as a Lab Technician, a post which she held up to the time of her passing.

She was an Anglican by denomination and was a member of the St. Mark’s Church Choir.

She will be laid to rest on Saturday, January 14, 2012, at the Rosedale Cemetery in New Jersey. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, at St. Mark’s Anglican Church in Brooklyn, New York.

The Carnival Development Corporation through Mrs. Cheryl Rodriguez is grateful to Miss Nina Maloney, Ingrid’s cousin and godmother, for providing some of this important information. To Mrs. Hermina Cambridge and Mrs. Maureen John, her cousins here in SVG, to Steve her brother in New York and her sister-in law Yvette, and most of all to her beautiful daughter Rhea, all relatives and friends we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of such a lovely person, a Queen in every way.

May you find peace and rest where pain and suffering will be no more.
