Care of the Temple: Complications continued

Greetings, fellow Vincies!

I hope you have all rung in the New Year on a high note and are well on your way to a fantastic year. Resolutions or not, we all should be trying our best to take care of those we love, and that includes yourself. Funny, we often do such a good job of taking care of everyone, but somewhere at the bottom of the list are our own little selves.{{more}} Sheesh, for some people you don’t even make it onto the list of priorities! Let’s change that, okay?

During the following weeks we will go through various complications of diabetes. At times it may get somewhat overwhelming. Sometimes you will shake your head and ask: “Can diabetes REALLY do that? “ I assure you, it can, and for many of you who do not get some control over your blood sugar levels, it will.

As a sneak peak, here are the systems that diabetes can affect in your body:

Brain-we went through this one a few weeks back. Remember the stroke talk? If not, go through it again. It’s crucial!!!

Eyes; Mouth and teeth; Heart; Lungs; Stomach, intestines; Reproductive systems; Skin; Feet; Nervous system; Psychiatric/mind/emotion.

I may even be forgetting some there, believe it or not. One of the reasons why diabetes has such a big impact on lives is because it does affect the entire body, and the mind as well. It doesn’t sit on the surface, it gets down deep and does damage slowly and persistently. DO NOT GVE IT THE CHANCE.

Don’t forget this is your fight to lose. Your body is your temple to protect as best you can. It is the only one you get to have, so please care for it.

Buckle up. The road will be tough the next few weeks. But you’ll be stronger after traveling it.
