Sugar Matters

Some well-laid plans

Ah, fellow Vincies, I need to call you to action. There are a few projects under my belt and I cannot complete them without your help.

Where, oh where has the low-sugar food gone?{{more}}

I received a wonderful e-mail from a faithful reader a few weeks ago asking about low sugar foods in St.Vincent. As part of her general healthcare, she is seeking low-sugar versions of foods that she likes. Excellent! However, I was unable to tell her where she could find those foods. So, shout me up, Vincies, and tell me where you have been able to find low-sugar foods or diabetes specific foods: which supermarket, shop, pharmacy, roadside stand, wherever. You can e-mail me or send a response to the Searchlight, and in future I will publish a complete list of those places for everyone to have as a reference.

If you are a supermarket or shop, this is your chance to toot your own horn and get some free publicity too 🙂

Preparations for a Sugar Matters party

Indeed, I like big ideas. In my bag of big ideas, this is my favorite: a diabetes fair in SVG next year. We are still very early in the planning phases, but I want to know what you would like to see or hear from us. Sorry, can’t guarantee any diabetes celebrity guests at this time, but I promise to at least INVITE Halle Berry to join us. So let me know your ideas!

PLUS: I am planning to compile a diabetes cookbook with recipes that are 100% Vincy. Note, this a diabetes cookbook, so Bakes made in lard cannot be included! However, I don’t necessarily mean switching everything to artificial sweetener either. Let me hear some of those recipes using the bounty God gave us in this beautiful land, but with some care taken in the type of ingredients chosen to make this healthy for everyone.

Hopefully we can get several compiled for a cookbook next year to be featured at the diabetes fair. If you have some ideas now, send them on! Otherwise, why not start working on some, especially with Christmas coming?

Send all responses to me by e-mail or to the Searchlight newspaper by mail and they will forward to me. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Stay safe and healthy, Vincies!
