Vincentian track and field records revised

Handal Roban, Mikeisha Welcome and Uroy Ryan have revised some of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ track and field records.

Roban is the new holder of the male Under-20 800m record, bettering the best effort set by Eversley Linley 33 years ago.

Representing the Jamaica College at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association Qualification Trial Series on April 21, at the Calabar High School track, Roban timed 1:50.30. Roban’s clocking was almost one second faster than the 1: 51.40 done by Linley at the 1988 Junior Carifta Games in Jamaica in 1988.

Meanwhile, last Saturday, Welcome undid her own triple jump feat, when she did 13.60m at the John Jacobs Invitational, which was staged in Norman, Oklahoma, USA.

Welcome had previously leapt to 13.57m at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, March 27, which was a new national record in the event.

And, Ryan got hold of the male Under-20 long jump record, when his 7.33m last Friday at the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association Qualification Trial Series, held at the National Stadium in Kingston. Representing the Jamaica College, Ryan’s jump earned him the first place in class one.

Ryan’s jump was ratified as legal, after his previous 7.34m done in March, was deemed to have surpassed the accepted mark of wind assisted.
