Ambris overlooked for WI ODI series versus Sri Lanka

AFTER SERVING AS the team’s vice-captain in the West Indies team for the One Day International series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh, Vincentian Sunil Ambris was overlooked for the threematch series against Sri Lanka.

Ambris, who was one of the premier batsmen in the team to Bangladesh, mustered only 26 runs in his three innings. His highest score was 13 in the last ODI in Chattogram.

This, followed his 7 and 6, made in the first and second matches, respectively, which were played in Dhaka.

But whilst Ambris missed out, stand-in captain for the Bangladesh series, Jason Mohammed, maintained his place.

Mohammed had scores of 17, 11 and 17.

Prior to the Bangladesh series, Mohammed last appearance for the West Indies in ODIs was back in 2018.

Joining Mohammed as those who retained their places are Kyle Mayers, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph. Mayers and Hosein were both debutants in the Bangladesh ODI series.

Meanwhile, Romario Shepherd, who has five ODI matches to his name, is in the 14-man team.

Shepherd was originally selected to tour Bangladesh, but had to withdraw after contracting the coronavirus.

This left Kevin St Clair as the lone uncapped player named in the squad.

But returning to the squad after declining offers to tour Bangladesh, mainly for fears of Covid-19, are Kieron Pollard, Shai Hope, Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran.

The full squad reads: Kieron Pollard (captain), Shai Hope (vice-captain), Fabian Allen, Darren Bravo, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Kyle Mayers, Jason Mohammed, Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd and Kevin Sinclair.

The West Indies will host Sri Lanka in three matches, March 10, 12 and 14 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. The last match will be a day/night encounter.

The series forms part of the International Cricket Council- ICC ODI Super League.
