Points and ranking system for local athletes coming soon

Whenever the 2021 national track and field programme gets going, athletes competing at Team Athletics SVG events will be awarded points for their performances.

This is one of the new initiatives that will be put in place by the national track and field body.

According to a release, Team Athletics SVG disclosed that it will “introduce a points system for all its events, including Development Meets”.

Team Athletics SVG said that the new system is designed to encourage increased participation, as well as allows for monthly rankings of athletes by categories.

The release went on to inform, “This will serve as an important addition to the selection criteria regarding national representative teams”.

Another important innovations set for implementation this year, is the staging of zonal championships for schools and community athletes.
Team Athletics SVG confirmed that a grand final will follow the various zonal championships.
