Vincentian duo part of West Indies women preparation camp

Vincentian Japhina Joseph is part of a West Indies 24-member group, headed by captain Stafanie Taylor, to undergo three-weeks of training at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, in Antigua, as the West Indies women prepare for the World Cup qualifiers set to bowl off in July in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, another Vincentian, Samantha Lynch, is among the coaching staff for the camp which began on Sunday. Lynch is the holder of a level three coaching certificate.

The training group comprises the core of the existing international side, with Taylor, joined by the experienced players such as Deandra Dottin, Hayley Matthews, Anisa Mohammed, Shemaine Campbelle and Shakera Selman.

Apart from Lynch, the coaching staff is made up of head coach Courtney Walsh, along with other former West Indies players Robert Samuels, Corey Collymore and Ryan Austin, as well as former Leeward Island player Steve Liburd.

They are being supported by Neil Barry – physiotherapist; Shayne Cooper – Strength and conditioning coach; Amanda Johnson – mental skills coach; Gary Belle – team analyst; Sheena Gooding – team manager, with Naasira Mohammed – media and content officer.

The three-week camp, which ends February 1, will be overseen by Graeme West, the High Performance manager.

All members of the camp will also be tested four times in keeping with the protocols instituted during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They were tested twice before their arrival in Antigua.
