Young cricketers take VPL 2.0 spotlight

Two of St Vincent and the Grenadines’ most promising young cricketers, Dillon Douglas and Jeremy Layne, received the individual honours when the second edition of the Dream 11 Vincy Premier League (VPL) ended last Sunday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

Douglas was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, amassing 284 runs and taking 14 wickets.

Representing champions La Soufriere Hikers, Douglas tallied 284 runs, with a highest score of 50 not out.

Douglas added 14 wickets at a cost of 12.93 runs each.

Meanwhile, Jeremy Layne of runner- up Salt Pond Breakers, was adjudged the emerging player. Layne captured 14 wickets at an average of 9.86 runs.

Scoring the most runs in the tournament was Salt Pond Breakers’ captain Sunil Ambris, who amassed 298 runs.

Recording the highest individual score was Dark View Explorers’ Deron Greaves, when he lashed 82 not out against Grenadines Divers.

And, Explorers’ Dean Browne had the highest strike rate, that of 221.

The VPL is a 10/10 cricket competition played among six teams, and named after places of interest here in St Vincent and the Grenadines.
