Novice redeems in TBPO softball cricket

Once power house of local softball cricket, CGM Gallagher Novice, came good last Saturday at the Dauphine Playing Field, downing Fairbaine United Spartans by five wickets in the National Lotteries Authority Top Belair Progressive Organisation’s softball cricket competition.

Fairbaine United Spartans were dismissed for 65 in 9.5 overs, with Rokeem Roberts scoring 22.

Newborne Joseph scalped 2 for 2, bowling for Novice, who responded with 66 for 5 from 9 overs. Vernardo Primus led with 24 not out.

Bowling for Fairbaine United, Rokeem Roberts picked off 3 for 18.

No on-field action took place before the Novice versus Fairbaine United Spartans encounter, as D’s Blocks and Trucking Gomea Bombers won by default from Stag Older Boys, who were unable to field a team.

Sunday’s first match was also decided by the default route, as Fairbaine United Spartans got easy points from Bruce Law Chambers Smashers, who showed up to the venue one hour after the scheduled start time of their match.

But Sion Hill Tallawahs made haste while the sun shone, registering a 73-run win over Dr Thomas Injectors in a 12-over affair.

Tallawahs made 103 from their 12 overs. Delanzo Lavia scored 41 and Manley Duncan, 26.

Tex Franklyn was Injectors’ most successful bowler, taking 2 for 26.

At their turn at the crease, Dr Thomas Injectors were shot out for 30 in 10.2 overs, as Denson Hoyte snared 5 for 3 and Marlon Baptiste, 2 for 11.

And, Nice Radio Clinchers further dimmed Sunset Strikers by five wickets, in a match reduced to 13 overs because of rain.

Sunset Strikers made 66 all out in 12.3 overs. Jabarri Cunningham led with 40.

Bowling for Clinchers, Okeiph Andrews took 3 for 8, Kerwin Browne, 2 for 1 and Donaldson Harry, 2 for 20.

Clinchers replied with 67 for 5 in 10.3 overs. Okeiph Andrews topscored with 25.

Travis Cumberbatch was the Sunset Strikers’ most successful bowler, taking 2 for 19.
