Richland Park football competition gets female component
Five female outfits will contest the Valley Sports Committtee nine-a-side football tournament, set to open this Sunday at the Richland Park Oval.
It will be the first time that there will be a female component of the league.
The female component will be done in collaboration with the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation.
And, according to the organisers, it is being done with the sole purpose of “promoting female football in St Vincent and the Grenadines”.
The female division will complement the ten male teams, which will make up the main division of the league.
The ten male teams will be placed into two zones, as the committee has only five weeks in which to complete the league.
When the league opens in earnest this Sunday, Pride and Joy will host Owia United from 2:30 p.m., with Wakanda facing Hill 16 from 3:30 p.m., in a male encounter.
The two matches will sandwich the opening ceremony set for 3:45 p.m.
A release from the Valley Sports Committee stated that all Covid-19 protocols will be in place, where players and partons will be subjected to temperature checks during the competition, while hand-washing and hand-sanitising will also be implemented at the facility.
