Vincy Heat begins World Cup qualifiers in October

ST VINCENT AND THE Grenadines’ Vincy Heat, will join 29 other teams from CONCACAF, as the 2022 World Cup qualifiers kick off in October.

A release Monday from the Confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF), revealed a new format for the qualifiers.

Ranked in CONCACAF at 21, Vincy Heat will be placed in one of the six groups (five per group), which involves teams ranked 6 to 35.

The six highest ranked teams: El Salvador, Canada, Curacao, Panama, Haiti, and Trinidad and Tobago will be pre-seeded into groups A to F, respectively.

Each team will play every other team in their group once, playing a total of four matches; two home and two away. These games will be played in the FIFA match windows of October 2020 and November 2020.

At the end of the first round the six group winners will progress to the second round.

The second round will be played among the the group winners from the first round, with the match-ups pre-determined.

Group A winner will face the winner of Group F; the winner of Group B clashes with Group E winner, and Group C winner plays the winner of Group D.

The final round, which will consist of eight teams of the CONCACAF Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, will see the three winners from the second round join the CONCACAF Member Associations – Mexico, USA, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras.
