National Club Championships’ resumption on hold

The expected return of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation’s National Club Championships, last Tuesday at the Victoria Park, has been deferred.

In a release from the SVGFF’s last Monday, it indicated that Monday was “the final day for testing and the Ministry of Health requires a five-day period after the final tests are completed, to analyse the results and provide the SVGFF with its final recommendations”.

“In light of the timelines outlined immediately above, the proposed resumption date of Tuesday, 21st July, 2020 has been affected. The Tournament’s Committee will work closely with the Ministry of Health to make the necessary adjustments to the fixtures and an announcement of the restart date can be expected on or before Monday, July 27, 2020”, the SVGFF released added.

One of the protocols needed for the restart of the championships, is the testing of all players, match officials, match commissioners, media personnel, SVGFF staff and Tournament Committee members.

Additionally, the rest of the championships, according to the protocols, must be played without spectators.

The remaning matches in the first and premier divisions were to be completed. Seven matches remain in the first division and 35 matches are to be decided in the premier division.

The championships were suspended in March, after the declaration of the coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic.
