Shannon Gabriel added to West Indies test squad

Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel has been added to West Indies squad for the three-Test series against England, which bowls off tomorrow, Wednesday, at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Gabriel, 32, who was named in the reserves list, impressed in the two inter- squad matches, taking four wickets in each match.

He has played 45 test matches, taking 133 wickets. When the West Indies won the Wisden Trophy here in the Caribbean last year, with a 2-1 win over England, Gabriel was a key bowler in the team’s arsenal.

Gabriel though was sidelined for the latter part of 2019, because of injury.

He was hoping to get a run for Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, in the two remaining matches of the West Indies four-day regional championships. However, the two rounds were abandoned in March, because of the threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The 15-member test squad now reads: Jason Holder (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Raymon Reifer and Kemar Roach.
