Jules Anthony Cricket Club to be launched next month
All cricket units which previously came under the banner of North Leeward, will soon operate as the Jules Anthony Cricket Club.
This would include the senior male team, Northern Stars and the female outfit- Northern Girls.
The official launch of the club is set for July 18. On that same day, the Jules Anthony Cricket Club Academy and the Jules Anthony Cricket Club Youth Academy will have their official start.
Prior to next month’s launch, club members will from 5pm today, Friday June 19, meet at the Petit Bordel Secondary School, to elect officers of the club.
But already assigned, are the training days for the academies. The youth academy will get going on July 23, and have sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 1pm at the Cumberland Playing Field.
Meanwhile, the Get There Fitness Academy, starts on July 27, and will host activities Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays , also at the Cumberland Playing Field from 4pm, on the specified days.
Spokesperson for the Jules Anthony Cricket Club – Elron Lewis, informed SEARCHLIGHT that part of the reasoning, behind the formalising of the organisation, is in keeping with a mandate of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.
Lewis, in outling the benefits of having a bona fide club, stated that it would better serve them as a group, where they will be able to “have more organised fund- raising events”.
Naming of the club is in memory of the late – Julius “ Jules” Anthony, who for over two decades, was the fulcrum of the sports in North Leeward, with cricket being his stand out.
Anthony died suddenly on November 16, 2018.
