Two more Vincentians receive NCAA awards

Two more Vincentians, Mikiesha Welcome and Adora Lawrence, have attained National Collegiate Athletics Association All American Indoor status.

Welcome represented the University of Oklahoma in Division 1 in the triple jump event, which propelled her to the honour.

Welcome in her effort, also broke the school’s record.

Representing St Vincent and the Grenadines for the first time, Welcome earned a bronze medal in the triple jump at last year’s Pan Am juniors, held in San Jose, Costa Rica, Meanwhile, Lawrence’s All American accolade was attained when she turned out for the Coast Guard University in NCAA Division III, in the 400m.

Welcome and Lawrence joined Darria Matthias and Brandon Valentine-Parris, who also gained All American titles for their respective Division II institutions.

Mathias is a first-year student at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California, while Valentine-Parris is a senior at the St Augustine, University.
