Former national football administrator passes

Donald Thomas, a former executive member of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF), died last Saturday, May 30.

Thomas, who was known for his passionate support of football here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, served in various capacities at the national level.

His last tenure was in the 2011 to 2015 term of Venold Coombs’ presidency, when Thomas held the position of public relations officer.

Thomas had played a leading role in the Mwando Strikers set up, both as a player and as an administrator.

In the role of manager of Mwando Strikers, Thomas was a critical force in seeing the team gained some growth in the Kingstown Soccer League, mainly during the 1980s.

Also an ardent lover of cricket, Thomas supported the Victors cricket club.

Apart from giving yoeman service to football, Thomas worked as a teacher and a customs broker.

Thomas was 72 at the time of his death, when he lost his long fight with cancer.
