Windwards Volcanoes flattened by the  Leewards Hurricanes


The Windward Islands Volcanoes were flattened by the Leeward Islands Hurricanes by an innings and 165 runs in the third round of the Cricket West Indies four-day regional Professional Cricket League.

Behind by 216 runs, the Volcanoes were dismissed for 51 last Sunday evening in the day /night encounter at the Daren Cricket Stadium in St Lucia.

The Volcanoes’ batting was undone by the bowling of Sheeno Berridge, who scalped 5/22; Rahkeem Cornwall – 2/7 and Alzarri Joseph – 2/11.

The deficit was set up when the Hurricanes made 354/8, in response to the Volcanoes’ 138.

The Hurricanes’ total saw Kieran Powell making 69, Alzarri Joseph 64, Jaison Peters 57, Amir Jangoo 51 and Rahkeem Cornwall 37.

Bowling for the Volcanoes, Sherman Lewis had 3/80, Preston Mc Sween 2/68 and Josh Thomas 2/88.

When the match began on Friday, after Thursday’s play was rained out, the Volcanoes made 138 all out, Devon Smith topscored with 49.

Sheeno Berridge took 4/39 and Alzarri Joseph grabbed 4/51.

Also taking full points were the Guyana Jaguars and the Barbados Pride.

Jaguars at home at the Guyana National Stadium, inflicted a 219 runs win over Trinidad and Tobago Red Force.

Summarised scores: Jaguars – 323 and 177/5 declared, Red Force – 98 and 182.

And, at the Sabina Park in Jamaica, Barbados Pride gained a 119 run win over the Jamaica Scorpions.

Scores : Pride- 219 and 206; Scorpions- 133 and 168.

The next round of matches are set for February 6 to 9 as the tournament takes a break.

When the resumption takes place, Volcanoes will meet Red Force at the Windsor Park in Dominica; Jaguars play the Scorpions – Guyana National Stadium, and the Hurricanes host Barbados Pride, at Warner Park, St Kitts.
