Desron Maloney in Windward Islands Volcanoes’ four-day squad
Vincentian Desron Maloney has been included in the Windward Islands Volcanoes 13-member team named to face Barbados Pride in the opening fixture of Cricket West Indies’ Professional Cricket League four-day tournament, which starts this Thursday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
He is the lone player in the team yet to appear in the four-day first class format.
Maloney made his List A debut last November in the Regional Super-50 tournament, finishing with 193 runs, at an average of 27.57.
Meanwhile, the Volcanoes will go into the new season with a new captain – Kavem Hodge, who takes over from former West Indies vice-captain Kirk Edwards.
Edwards has however retained his place, along with long standing players Devon Smith and Shane Shillingford.
The Volcanoes’ squad to face the Barbados Pride is completed by Alick Athanaze, Emmanuel Stewart. Keron Cottoy, Ray Jordan, Shermon Lewis, Josh Thomas, Preston Mc Sween and Bhaskar Yadram.
The management unit is Andrew Richardson – head coach, Fernix Thomas – assistant coach and Mario Christopher – physiotherapist.
The Volcanoes will be up against a powerful Pride team, which contains several players with West Indies experience.
The Barbados Pride team reads Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Shamarh Brooks, Jonathan Carter, Shane Dowrich, Dominic Drakes, Justin Greaves, Keon Harding, Chemar Holder, Kyle Mayers, Shayne Moseley, Ashley Nurse, Tevyn Walcott and Jomel Warrican.
Following their meeting with the Barbados Pride, the Volcanoes will play the Jamaica Scorpions from January 16-19.
