Marriaqua revels in constituency netball glory
When the revived constituency netball tournament ended last Monday at the Kingstown Netball Centre, Marriaqua was left the last team standing.
Marriaqua, in a fitting end to the tournament, stopped Central Leeward 40-38 in an epic battle.
The final scoreline reflected the intensity of the final, as the first quarter ended level at 7.
Marriaqua led 17-14 at the end of the second quarter and remained ahead at the end of the third, 30-24.
Leading Marriaqua’s scoring was Skiddy Francis, who poured in 26 of her 34 tries, with Kemeisha Antoine, making good 11 of her 17 and Kemisha Francis was perfect, scoring all of her three attempts.
For the second place Central Leeward, Deslyn Jeffers registered 22 of her 29 tries and it was 16 out of 21 for Meshanda Creese.
The afternoon’s action at the Kingstown Netball Centre began with North Windward edging out Central Kingstown, 26-25, as the two battled for the third place.
West St George, Northern Grenadines, South Central Windward, North Central Windward and South Leeward, also contested the St Vincent and the Grenadines Netball Association tournament.
Before the 2019 edition, the last constituency tournament was held in 2007.
