Local cricket coaches get foundation

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc. engaged 20 local cricket coaches in a Cricket West Indies (CWI) foundation course, last Friday and Saturday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.

The coaches were drawn from clubs, the Division of Physical Education and Sports, along with the primary schools.

Conducted by certified coaches Irvin Warrican and Ian Allen, the participants were given theoreticals in the areas of introduction to coaching, how children learn, safety, fun, inclusion, wicketkeeping, fielding, bowling, batting, basic knowledge and motivation.

The coaches were also required to conduct practical sessions, to assess their capabilities in transferring what they had learned to their charges.

After completing the foundation course, the participants can move on to the CWI level one.
