Mustique wins in defence of masters cricket title

2018 SVG Masters cricket champions Mustique Company Masters, began their title defence with a five-wicket win over Memorial Funeral Home North Leeward, last Sunday at the Buccament Playing Field.

North Leeward made 104 for 8 from their 20 overs, with Alphie Gould hitting 49 not out.

Bowling for Mustique, Roy Baptiste had 3 for 7, and there were two wickets apiece for Oneil Thomas and Cedrick Cupid.

Oneil Thomas then hit 53 not out, to lead Mustique to 108 for 5 from 15.5 overs. Simon Jack was North Leeward’s most successful bowler, with 3 for 9.

Also at Buccament on Sunday, Computec Belfongo had a seven-wicket win over General Hardware Pastures.

Batting first, Pastures reached 100 for 9 from their 20 overs. Anthony Charles led with 34.

Sylvanus Morgan was the pick of the Belfongo bowlers, taking 3 for 7, while there were two wickets each for Levan King, Rohan King and Rajiv Roberts.

Samuel Williams struck 41 not out, as Belfongo replied with 101 for 3 from 14.4 overs.

At Sion Hill, there were wins for the host team -Sion Hill and A R& D Trucking Ptani.

Sion Hill beat Kirk Da Silva La Croix by 65 runs.

Sion Hill posted 153 for 5 from their 20 overs, with Ronald Medford stroking 44 not out and Sylvanus Vanloo, 25.

Amos Richards took 2 for 26 bowling for La Croix, whose response halted at 88 for 8 from their 20 overs.

There were two wickets each for Sylvannus Vanloo, Cleton Burnet and Brian Davis.

Meanwhile, Ptani outplayed Stanley Browne Stubbs by 17 runs.

Zenus James hit a topscore of 40 not out in Ptani’s total of 103 all out from 17.4 overs.

Dave Stapleton had 3 for 14 and Micah Joseph, 3 for 22.

Stubbs’ batting flopped to 86 all out in 19 overs, with Kissinger Mc Lean scoring 26.

Isaac Haywood with 4 for 12 and Cornelius Springer, 2 for 10, were Ptani’s most successful bowlers.

And, at the Park Hill Playing Field, Stanley Dalzell Park Hill and North East were winners.

Park Hill had a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Davis Construction Bequia.

Batting first, Bequia got to 192 for 5 from their 20 overs. Orlando Lavia scored 67, Dan Williams, 57 and Calvin Hazell, 34.

Park Hill scored 193 for 1 in 18.4 overs. Keyan Boyea hit 89 and Ricaldo Thomas,78.

And, former champions North East, registered an 88-run win over North Windward.

North East posted 190 for 4 from their 20 overs. Harvey Pope scored 63, Olanzo Jackson, 58 not out and Elton Williams, 35.

In reply, North Windward scored 102 for 9 from 20 overs. Olanzo Jackson took 2 for 12.

The competition continues this weekend, with matches slated for Saturday and Sunday.
