THIRTY-FOUR swimmers from Black Sands Swim Squad (BSSS) competed in the FLOW SVG National Invitational Swimming Championships which took place August 14-18, 2019, at Shrewsbury Aquatic Centre.

Eighty-four swimmers from five swimming clubs took part in the meet and for the 6th consecutive year, Black Sands Swim Squad were crowned the 2019 Club Champions.

There were many personal best swims at the event and BSSS totalled a medal count of 190 medals; 87 Gold, 68 Silver and 35 Bronze. This fantastic medal count was accompanied by the following swimmers breaking SVG National records.

Alex Joachim (swimming for BSSS) broke seven records in the age 15 to 16 category and also broke five SVG National Records.

Mya Defreitas (swimming for BSSS) broke three records in the girls 13 to 14 age group and also broke two SVG National Records.

Eltonique Leonard (swimming for BSSS) broke three records in the girls 8 and under group.

Kevern DaSilva (swimming for BSSS) broke three records in the girls 11 to 12 age group.

Abigail Deshong (swimming for BSSS) broke two records in the girls 11 to 12 group.

Shane Cadogan (swimming for BSSS) broke the 100 Freestyle National record.

Aaron DeFreitas (swimming for BSSS) broke the 50 Freestyle National record.

Eltonte Leonard (swimming for BSSS) broke the 50 metre Butterfly record in the boys 11 to 12 age group.

BSSS Coach Kyle Dougan said he was over the moon with the results from all BSSS swimmers over the 5five-day competition. He said that swimming in St Vincent and the Grenadines has now got to a very high standard from all the swimming clubs and he is looking forward to the continued improvements from our young athletes.
