Sunil Ambris gets cover duty in WI world cup camp

Vincentian Sunil Ambris has been named as cover for left-handed opener Evin Lewis in the West Indies World Cup 15-member team.

Ambris’ inclusion was as a result of his reasonable form shown in the recently concluded tri- nation-handed Ambris, who batted in the opening position, had knocks of 38, 148, 23 and 69 not out.

He and left-arm fast bowler Raymon Reifer, were the two kept for the West Indies preparation camp.

Also emerging from the tri-nation series, the West Indies selectors have named ten players, who have been deemed “reserves”, ahead of the final declaration of the World Cup team.

Other than Ambris and Reifer, the other reserves are Kieron Pollard, Roston Chase, Keemo Paul, Dwayne Bravo, Shane Dorwich, Jonathan Carter, John Campbell and Khary Pierre.

The West Indies is continuing their preparations for the upcoming World Cup with the four-day camp, which will include an additional warm-up fixture against Australia, to be played on Wednesday, May 22, at the Ageas Bowl, the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club.

The original West Indies schedule was based in Bristol from May 23, with two official ICC Cricket World Cup warm-up matches on May 26 against South Africa and on May 28 versus New Zealand.

The West Indies opening ICC Cricket World Cup match is against Pakistan on May 31 at Trent Bridge.

The West Indies World Cup squad reads: Jason Holder (captain), Chris Gayle, Kemar Roach, Darren Bravo, Andre Russell, Shai Hope (wicketkeeper), Sheldon Cottrell, Evin Lewis, Shannon Gabriel, Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Shimron Hetmyer, Fabian Allen, Oshane Thomas and Nicholas Pooran.
