SVG, Grenada battle for Windward Islands senior cricket honours

Host St Vincent and the Grenadines and Grenada will battle for title honours in the Windward Islands senior men’s two day cricket tournament, when the final round bowls off today from 10 a.m. at the Park Hill Playing Field.

Grenada, though, is in pole position, having secured an outright win and a first innings triumph, while St Vincent and the Grenadines has two first innings honours.

St Vincent and the Grenadines took first innings over St Lucia at the Park Hill Playing Field.

Replying to St Lucia’s 276, SVG made 311.

Dillon Douglas, in his debut match, topscored with 80, including 7 fours and 4 sixes.

Desron Maloney scored 64, Atticus Browne, 57 and Romano Pierre, 38.

Bowling for St Lucia, Dillan John had 4 for 17, Dornan Edward, 2 for 80 and Larry Edward, 2 for 87.

St Lucia batted first and Junior Henry slammed 13 fours and 8 sixes in his 127, while Tarryyck Gabriel scored 32 and Kimani Melius, 30.

for 81, Shaquille Browne, 2 for 49 and Darius Martin, 2 for 51.

Batting a second time, St Lucia was 128 for 3, when the match closed.

In a rain affected second round fixture, also at Park Hill, SVG gained first innings honours against Dominica.

Dominica made 201, with Kevin James topscoring with 67.

Bowling for St Vincent and the Grenadines, Kenneth Dember had 5 for 59 and Darius Martin, 3 for 25.

In response, St Vincent and the Grenadines scored 206 for 4. Desron Maloney scored 104, in which he lashed 16 fours and a six.

Meanwhile, at Cumberland, Grenada beat St Lucia by 212 runs.

Grenada made 146 in their first innings, with Lindon Lawrence scoring 56. Larry Edward was the pick of St Lucia’s bowling, taking 4 for 21 and Audy Alexander had 3 for 13.

St Lucia was dismissed for 115. Sherman Lewis took 3 for 10 and Darel Cyrus, 3 for 18.

Batting a second time, St Lucia declared at 274 for 7. Denis George scored 61, Johann Jeremiah, 58, Andre Fletcher, 57 and Sherman Lewis, 37.

Larry Edward took 2 for 47, Dillan John, 2 for 57 and Shadrack Descarte, 2 for 69.

Set 306 to win, St Lucia caved in for 93, as Denis George scalped 4 for 16, Sherman Lewis, 2 for 20 and Darel Cyrus, 2 for 32.

Grenada had first innings honours over Dominica in their opening match, also at the Cumberland Playing Field.

Replying to Dominica’s 122 all out. Grenada posted 312 for 7 declared.

Denis Smith stroked 11 fours and a six in his 100, while Johann Jeremiah fell for 99. Jeremiah’s innings included 15 fours. Andre Fletcher made 46.

For Dominica, Tyrone Theophile took 2 for 31, Kharmal Hamilton, 2 for 44 and Liam Sebastian, 2 for 49.

In Dominica’s innings, Alick Athanaze topscored with 31, while bowling for Grenada, Imran Joseph picked off 5 for 18, Denis George, 2 for 14 and Ryan John, 2 for 24.

And, batting a second time, Dominica was 150 for 2, with Jelarni Robinson scoring 76 not out, striking 11 fours and a six.

Dominica and St Lucia are scheduled to play the other third round final match at Cumberland, also starting today.
