Team Athletics SVG announces junior Carifta squad

ST VINCENT AND THE Grenadines will be represented by 11 athletes (seven females and four males), at this year’s Junior Carifta Games, set for the Cayman Islands over the Easter weekend.

Among the list of females, is 14 year old Ulanda Lewis, who reached the finals of both 100m and 200m at last year’s edition in the Bahamas. Lewis will be again entered in the two events.

The other Under-17 female selected is another Central Leeward Secondary and High Performance athlete Ashanti Richards, who is listed to compete in the 1500m.

The other five female athletes named will contest events in the Under- 20 age group.

Odeshia John–Nanton is in the 400H, 4 x 400m, Zamesha Myle – 400m and 4x 400m, Annecia Richards – 4 x 400m, Zita Vincent 1500m, and is a reserve in the 4 x 400m, with Tamara Woodley competing in the 400m and 4 x 400m.

Annecia Richards, Vincent and Woodley were part of the SVG’s quartet that placed third in the Under-20 4 X 400m, but was later elevated to the gold medal after disqualification of the first and second places.

John-Nanton and Woodley are from the SVG Community College and the IT DAT Academy, while Richards is a member of IT- DAT Academy and a student of the Intermediate High School.

Heading up the male squad is last year’s Under- 17 800m gold medallist Handal Roban of the St Vincent Grammar School and X- Cel Track Club. This year, though, he is in the Under-20 age group of that event.

Meanwhile, Nellie Ambriton, also of the Grammar School and XCel Track Club, runs in the Under-17 800m, with the Thomas Saunders Secondary and X- Ceed athlete Uroy Ryan entered again in the Under-17 High Jump.

Central Leeward and High Performance’s Jacque Edwards contests the Under-20 multi events, complete the athletes selected.

Chantel Legair and Chester Morgan are the officials travelling with the team which leaves here April 16 and returns April 23.
