SVG hosts king of marathon globetrotting

Brent Weigner, who is dubbed the King of Marathon Globetrotting, was among several marathoners who were part of the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) segment of the “Eastern Caribbean Challenge”.

St Vincent and the Grenadines was the penultimate stop in the seven country tour, when last Wednesday, March 13, Weigner was among several marathoners who used the runway of the decommissioned ET Joshua Airport as the course for the marathon.

Weigner, who has completed marathons in more than 170 countries, and the other marathoners travelled the runway 14 times, to complete the 26 miles, 385 yards distance, which constitutes a marathon.
Weigner is the world record holder, who has completed a marathon in all seven continents, having done so ten times.

The list of runners in the Eastern Caribbean Challenge, in total, has tallied in excess of 4,000 marathons.

St Vincent and the Grenadines, though, offered a piece of history for the marathoners, as it was the first occasion for all of the runners, to have done a marathon on a runway.

Three local runners, Roger Young, Josnel Ashton and Caswin Prince, were part of last Wednesday’s historic marathon.

The Eastern Caribbean Challenge was organized by Z Adventures, with the St Vincent and the Grenadines leg co-ordinated by Sailor’s Wilderness Tours.

The Challenge involved seven marathons. One of the marathons took place on the cruise ship, the Costa Magica.
