Team Rivals take 2019 premier division cricket title

Team Rivals is the new champions of the Premier Division of the National Lotteries Authority of the national cricket programme of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Cricket Association Inc.

The title was handed to Team Rivals when last year’s winners Victors One failed to show with sufficient players at the Park Hill Playing Field, last Saturday.

Team Rivals therefore got full points, to finish the competition with four outright wins.

Second to Team Rivals were FLOW Radcliffe.

Both Team Rivals and Radcliffe, leading up to the competition, had traded players, with the newly-crowned champions getting the seasoned players and Radcliffe, those who were in line for national selection.

The accommodation saw Dyke Cato, Lindon James and Marcus Castello, moving over to Team Rivals, while West Indies ODI and T/20 player Obey Mc Coy, along with Rasheed Fredericks and Asif Hooper, moving over to the Radcliffe set up.

Radcliffe confirmed their second place, in a drawn match last weekend versus Police Two at the Sion Hill Playing Field.

Police Two made 215, with Benniton Stapleon scoring 97 and Andrew Thomas, 47. Bowling for Radcliffe, Othneil Lewis bagged 5 for 61.

Radcliffe declared their response at 65 for 4. Kenneth Dember took 2 for 19 and Andrew Thomas,- 2 for 29.

Batting a second time, Police Two scored 125 for 9 declared. Rickford Walker made 48, while Rasheed Fredericks scalped 6 for 30 and Richie Richards had 3 for 53.

Radcliffe were 33 for 3, when a shower of rain halted the match, at which point both captains agreed to officially end play.

Police Two finished third, Victors One – fourth, Guardian General Saints was fifth and New Haven Funeral Home North Windward Youths, sixth.

North Windward Youths will therefore return to the first division of the 2020 competition.

 Their place taken by the winners of the 2019 first division title, which is yet to be decided.
