Barrouallie Secondary School holds Sunday Sports
Barrouallie Secondary School (BSS), will this year, break with tradition, and host its annual inter-house track meet on a Sunday.
The track meet is set for March 3, at the Victoria Park.
Since 2017, Barrouallie Secondary has held its track meet at that venue, from afternoon into evening, but during the week days.
Physical Education teacher Chester Morgan, told SEARCHLIGHT that the reasoning behind the move of hosting the “sports” on a Sunday, is to make the event “more family oriented”.
“We want to make it family oriented, because over the years, many parents were not able to witness their children compete, because of their commitment to their jobs during the week,” Morgan related.
He said that the school has received overwhelming support from parents with the new move.
“The parents are fully supportive of this move,” Morgan confirmed.
He noted that apart from the parents, owners and operators of omnibuses from the Central Leeward area are on board, hence, public transport to get the students and others to and from the Victoria Park, has been assured.
The 2019 Barrouallie Secondary School’s inter- house track meet is set to begin at 2 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m.
The event will be once again fuelled by Rubis, as the corporate entity would provide support via the provision of trophies and medals.
Scott House (Red), the defending champion, is expected to dominate again, as the house possesses most of the school’s top female athletes.
Among them are Ashanti Richards, Chaunte Williams, Ulanda Lewis and Aaliyah Anderson, who were all l Continued from Page 29
stand-out performers last year.
Lewis House (Orange), James House (Green) and Bailey House (Blue), are the other competing houses.
Barrouallie Secondary School is the reigning female champion of the Inter-Secondary School Athletics Championships (ISSAC).
