BFA president makes light call

President of the Bequia Football Association (BFA) Clayton Ollivierre is calling on the relevant authorities to look seriously at lighting the Clive Tannis Playing Field in Bequia.

Ollivierre’s call came after his association was able to host a zonal football competition at the venue, utilizing the lights at the adjoining hard court, with the addition of a bank of portable lights.

The competition, which was the first of its type on the island, drew large crowds each night of the hosting of matches.

Based on the response, Ollivierre noted: “It is evident that night football is the way to go …I hope that the powers that be will get the field lighted”.

Assessing the competition, Ollivierre told SEARCHLIGHT: “ We achieved our objectives.. It was challenging at times, but I think it was successful… We were able to bring back Bequia football to some sort of respectability”.

Despite the successes of their first effort of innovation, Ollivierre said that his committee would be evaluating the competition, with a view of bettering next year’s hosting.
Six zones contested the inaugural competition, which was won by South.

Running alongside the zonal competition, was an Under-17 competition, which involved four outfits.
