Vincentian contingent off to Youth Olympic Games
Six athletes and five officials, make up the St Vincent and the Grenadines contingent to the Youth Olympic Games, which opens tomorrow in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The six athletes are Ria Adams, Jaheed Thomas, Micah Glagow, Enrico Louraine, Romar Stapleton and Zita Vincent.
Adams will contest the aquatics discipline, while Thomas will be the first Vincentian to compete in rowing at the Youth Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, Glasgow and Louraine are the beach volleyball duo, with Stapleton and Vincent, entered in athletics.
Glasgow and Louraine earned their places at the Games through qualification, while the others were granted Universality Places (UP) from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The officials are Suzanna Ollivierre – Chief of Mission, while Garth De Shong (athletics), Nikita Campbell (beach volleyball), Nicha Branker (rowing) and Niesha Alexander (aquatics) are the coaches, who have travelled to the South American country.
The Vincentian contingent, minus Ollivierre, left on Wednesday for Argentina.
Ollivierre, in his capacity, left St Vincent and the Grenadines last weekend.
The Youth Olympic Games run from October 6-18.
When the inaugural Youth Olympic Games were held in Singapore in 2010, St Vincent and the Grenadines by Shantal Rouse and Renaldo Charles in athletics and Dasreen Primus ( taekwondo).
At the second edition in Nanjing, China in 2014, Deslron Lawrence (athletics), Adora Lawrence (aquatics) and Delshun Welcome and Rodell Fraser ( beach volleyball).
