Avenues, System 3 renew rivalry for second division honours

Avenues United and System 3 Sports Academy will contest the final of the inaugural second division of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation’s national club championships.

The two top football units here in St Vincent and the Grenadines, will go for glory this Sunday, July 22.

The configuration of the final was set up last Sunday when the semi-finals were staged at the Chili Playing Field in Georgetown.

Both finalists were commanding in the disposal of their opponents.

Avenues swished home team SV United 5-1, and System 3 outplayed Pride and Joy, 6-3.

Benjamin Williams hit a hat-trick, netting in the 10th, 49th and 52nd minutes, while Delano John, with a 21st minute strike and Raheem Westfield in the 59th minute, accounted for Avenues United’s tally.

Dave Duncan scored for SV United in the 58th minute.

Meanwhile, Aeron Collis continued his goal-scoring form, with items in the 8th and 31st minutes, along with a brace from Kewon Clarke (66th and 70th) and single strikes from Aaron Jackson (29th) and Chad Davis (34th), saw System 3 to the title match-up with Avenues.

For Pride and Joy, Tizon Phillips scored in the 10th and 23rd minutes, and Jessie Caine in the 42nd.

While Avenues United and System 3 play for top honours, SV United and Pride and Joy will contest for the third and fourth positions.

The winner of the second division will pocket $4,000, second place, $3,000, with third getting $2,000 and fourth, $1,000.

The second division competition featured representative teams from the 12 clubs, which are lodged in the premier division.
