High Park United repeat Richland Park netball title

Defending champions High Park United had an uncomplicated 67-40 trumping over J & G Scorchers in the final of the Vita Malt/KDLT Richland Park netball title, last Sunday at the Richland Park Government School’s hard court.

In a repeat of the 2017 final, the mismatch was again evident from the first quarter, when High Park United sped away to a 19-5 lead. They doubled their scoring in the second quarter, while Scorchers managed nine goals, to leave the match still lopsided by the halfway mark.

By the sound of the third quarter whistle, High Park United had again outscored their opponents 20-10, to finish 58-24 in the ascendancy.

The defending champions then put the finishing touches on the match, to reclaim the netball title and pocket the $1,500 first place cash prize, along with the winner’s trophy and a case of Vita Malt.

J & G Scorchers had to settle for second place, which saw them carrying away a trophy and $1,000.

Playing unbeaten in the competition, High Park United had defeated Vultures 80-46 in their semi-final match-up, while Scorchers secured a berth in the final by beating Young Strugglers, 60-52.

Vultures squeezed Young Strugglers, 59-56, to win the third place, thus gaining $700 and the third place trophy.

Nine teams contested the competition.
