Inter-community League Football Championships end

The 2017 St Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) Inter-Community League Football Championships, came to an end last Saturday at the Campden Park Playing Field, with the three age group finals.

Crowning moments came to East Kingstown – the Under-11; Layou – the Under-16 and Central Kingstown – the Under-18.

East Kingstown had to depend on nerves and poise, as they beat South Leeward 3-2 in kicks from the penalty spot, after a 0-0 tie in regulation time and extra time.

But East Kingstown Under-16s were not able to replicate their Under-11s, as they went under to Layou.

A Javed Hunte strike was sufficient to give Layou the Under-16 title.

It was also one goal that decided the Under-18s. Mikal Quashie was the lone goal scorer, as Central Kingstown got past GECCU Calliaqua 1-0.

Before the triple finals, there were three third place play-offs, all won by Barrouallie.

Zideon Cunningham hit a hat-trick and Frankroy Cain, the other, as Barrouallie beat Layou 4-0 in the Under-11s third place play-off.

It took kicks from the penalty spot in the Under-16 play-off, as Barrouallie won 3-2 over North Windward. The two outfits had played to a 1-1 draw in normal time and extra time.

Derronick Nanton scored for North Windward and Shermol Reid for Barrouallie.

And, Barrouallie defeated North Windward 2-1 in the Under-18 play-offs.

Trizal Fraser and Gidson Francis scored for Barrouallie, with North Windward’s goal coming from Edison Hoyte.

East Kingstown, Layou and Central Kingstown joined Barrouallie, the senior men’s and East Kingstown, senior women’s champions.

The winners and runners-up in the five divisions, along with individual awardees, will soon get their rewards at a ceremony to be announced by the organizers – the SVGFF.
