Arnos Vale Methodist take inter-church TT titles
The Arnos Vale Methodist took the team title and Akeil De Roche, the open singles, when the revived inter-church table tennis tournament, organized by the St Vincent and the Grenadines Table Tennis Association (SVGTTA), concluded last Tuesday night at the West St George Secondary School.
The Arnos Vale Methodist team, comprising Akeil De Roche, Joshua Joseph and Dureese Nelson, all prospective national junior representatives, outclassed Church of Christ in the final, three games to one.
In the race to the title, De Roche outdid Junior Cox 12-10, 11-7 and stopped Mark Charles 11-3, 11-3, while Nelson had an 11-7, 11-3 win over Mirac Creese.
Mark Charles had a consolation win over Joshua Joseph, beating him 11-9, 11-9.
Akeil De Roche then returned to the green table to face his Arnos Vale Methodist teammate Joshua Joseph, in the singles final.
De Roche, who is also a promising tennis player, had no mercy on Joseph, defeating him in straight sets, 11-4,11-4.
The two losing semi-finalists in the open singles were Mark Charles and Dr Junior Ackie of the Southern District Seventh-Day Adventist.
Harvest Bible Chapel also participation in the tournament.
Four other units had initially indicated their participation, but that never materialized.
Vice-president of the SVGTTA Dennis Gaymes, speaking at the end of the tournament, praised the standard of play among the participating teams.
Gaymes is optimistic that future tournaments would see greater participation.
